Earth Roots is a family owned and operated business. Matt and Wynde Kate Reese started the business in 2002 upon returning to the Adirondacks from Belize, where they have been working to transform 3 acres of farmland into a forest garden.
Within a few short seasons Earth Roots Landscaping has made a name for itself in the High Peaks region; due to the quality of work, attention to detail and the high level of service given to all clients. The business has grown to include crucial pieces of equipment and a strong and knowledgeable work force.

Matt and Wynde Kate live in Lake Placid with their son, Bladen.
Wynde Kate is an Adirondack native who grew up learning the names and uses of indigenous plants and native species. She is the designer and office manager of the business. Her interests in Feng Shui, Permaculture and Biodynamics have influenced her designs and plant choices, while her knowledge of indigenous species enables her to work them into her designs in meaningful ways.
Wynde Kate has her BS in Holistic Nutrition and is studying to become a Certified Permaculture Designer. She teaches Gardening at Northern Lights School in Saranac Lake, where she encourages children to learn about where their food comes from.
Wynde Kate is also the co-owner of Green Goddess Natural Foods in Lake Placid. Green Goddess promotes buying from local farmers and producers, while providing the community with healthy foods from reliable sources. Says Wynde Kate: "the two businesses are really interconnected. We need to nurture the natural landscape just like we need to nurture the landscape of our bodies. Neither will be healthy if the other is ailing."
Matthew has been in the green industry since he was 14 years young. His first job was at the prestigious Matterhorn Nursery in Rockland County, NY and he has been involved in landscaping ever since. Before starting Earth Roots, Matt managed landscape crews in New York and Colorado, while spending many tropical winters landscaping in Belize.
Matt is nationally certified from ICPI - Interlocking Paving Institute and NCMA - National Concrete Masonry Association, which means he is a trusted source for all paver work and segmented retaining walls. His experience with plant and tree installation and natural stone work add to his repertoire.
When landscaping season is in hibernation, Matt spends his time making custom furniture under the name - Rustic Roots. His attention to detail and love of natural wood have enabled him to create one-of-a-kind pieces that preserve the essence of the tree.
